Cardio is probably the very first aspect of training that we are introduced too. Even before spelling was an option, we were training our legs to be cardio masters. So it's safe to say that cardio is an innate part of our biological makeup. We would cry, eat, sleep, and attempt to walk daily. But besides what we can physically see, what's happening internally? Well to keep it simple, you’re building the body’s ability to intake oxygen and transport it through the blood to the exercising muscle. Basically air is coming in to power the muscles being used. A healthy lifestyle is on its way out. But what all falls into the category of cardio? How do we use it properly to live longer and stronger?
Cardio is one of the most beginner friendly and time efficient forms of exercise. I guess it goes without saying the most cost efficient as well. Most people can gain extremely high level results by only paying with blood, sweat, and tears. 20 minutes of high intensity cardio twice a week or 30 minutes of low intensity cardio five times a week is the common standard for good health. The most notorious exercise in the kingdom of cardio is jogging. Attaining a goal of 9-10 minutes per mile is respectable and life changing. But if your sights are set higher, the best yet is 3 minutes and 43 seconds by a Moroccan. Quite legendary if I do say so myself. Jogging isn't your jam? Do not fear, rowing is here. Don’t care to row? Try biking on the go. Don't want to bike or spin? Do a little salsa in your den. Choosing not to give dancing a chance? Jumping rope can lengthen the lifespan. It doesn't really matter what you do, just get those lungs pumping at maximum efficiency.
With so many choices ranging from absolutely free to luxury private classes, the kingdom of cardio is the perfect kickstart for your fitness journey. Cardio improves circulation which can help in every walk of life. Whether you have a demanding job that makes you run back and forth all day or a demanding love life that makes you move back and forth all night. Good circulation, strong lungs, and a strong heart is key to your progression and longevity. So pick an exercise that's your speed and don't be afraid to change it up daily. Whatever you have to do to stay motivated and keep it fresh, JUST GET IT IN!
