SS~ FRAMEWORK PHYSIQUE #17 : COORDINATING BALANCE
Strength is one of the pillars of longevity. So is flexibility and cardio ( aka endurance). If we are dedicated time is placed into each weekly. If we are diligent we place some time into each daily. The changes they add to the body, also add to the mind. All of a sudden from our strong morning squats, we have a strong presentation. After our routine afternoon stretch, we feel okay with traffic taking a bit longer then usual. After our evening jog, it's easy to help the kids with homework and knock out our hobbies. The mind-body connection always translates. So what do we do when we want to take those broad areas like strength & flexibility, and turn them into a specific skill? Skills such as fighting , dancing, sexing , or a sport. Well the first phase is called building coordination and balance. They are the first stages of hybrid training to manifest those desired skills. New skills such as salsa or ballet require a nice blend of coordination. Rekindling old skills such as basketball or boxing require the same. Coordination and balance builds gracefulness and ease of movement. As you practice them they allow powerful movements with minimal effort. Though the effort is minimal the desired task is still completed. To gain true coordination and balance certain beginner task has to be done. Balancing on one leg is a great static beginner task. Skipping from one leg to the other and pausing is an exceptional dynamic beginner task. The faster you can go the better you become. A big tip for both is to keep your feet under your body as much as possible. Also lowering your center of gravity helps tremendously. This means crouch slightly and don’t lock out your knees.
Of course the next level and most necessary is practicing the desired skill. The more time you put into the movement the more muscle memory you build. This takes diligence and honesty. Diligence to remain consistent through failure. Honesty with yourself about how close you are to your desired skill level. This is all part of the mind body connection and your elite performance. You have to take time to feel the small nuances and correct them. Not overpowering or underpowering but the correct amount of effort. Balance. This is true power. Keep in mind strength and power are not the same. Just like Crude Oil and gas are not the same . One is a vital piece and catalyst to another. You are combining strength , flexibility, and endurance to accomplish a certain goal. A goal only you can decide.
